THE October 17, 2024, a strike at EDF has led to power cuts which affected approximately 71,000 homes in Guadeloupe. These load shedding, started around 2:00 p.m. local, were caused by a social movement in the electricity plant of the Mold, where the agents claim the compliance of their employment contracts and salary arrears neglected for five years.

The situation is all the more worrying as the Guadeloupe is a non-interconnected area, leading to a strong dependence on local electricity production. Currently, thermal power plants, one of which belongs to the Albioma company, must adjust their production due to the shutdown of engines, causing an imbalance in the network.
